— Quran 4:11 (An-Nisa)

Common questions

Is this a substitute for a lawyer?

No. This tool is for education and preparation only. In Canada, a legally valid will must be reviewed and executed by a licensed lawyer. We help you understand your Islamic obligations — a Muslim estate lawyer makes them legal.

Which madhab does this follow?

Currently Hanafi. The core faraid rules — fixed shares, Al-Awl (proportional reduction), and Ar-Radd (return of surplus) — are consistent across all four major schools. School-specific nuances are noted where they arise.

Can I trust the math?

The engine applies exact fractional arithmetic based on Quran 4:11–12 and 4:176. Every result shows the Quran reference and the fraction behind each share. It is deterministic — the same inputs always produce the same outputs.

Is my data private?

Yes. Nothing is stored without your consent. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Only if you choose to save or share your results does any data leave your device.

Why this exists

“Estate planning in the Muslim community is either ignored or inaccessible. That’s a problem we can fix.”

Faraaid was built by a Canadian Muslim who couldn't find a single clear, honest, free tool for Islamic estate planning. Everything that exists is either paywalled, built for a different jurisdiction, or skips the Islamic law entirely.
